Welcome to TV-Tastic. My name is Shawn O’Halloran and I live in Las Vegas and I’ll be your captain going forward. I started this blog as a companion site to The Movie Bros., a great movie review blog run by my cousins Matt and Brian Volke that I regularly guest-blog and comment on. With all of the fun I’ve had I realized that my other great love in entertainment, television, was being woefully ignored and I wanted to fix that.
Here’s how it works here: There will be reviews and opinion commentary posts on the shows that we have an interest in and we watch and like. What that means is that there will be a whole lot of action shows, a whole lot of premium cable and basic cable shows, a few sitcoms (including animation) and a whole buttload of Sci-Fi. We’ll discuss current shows, classic shows and shows that were great that left us far too soon. I do a lot of research and I provide a lot of insight into television shows and the television industry itself and I like to give you a perspective that maybe you haven’t encountered before.
I am as serious as a heart attack when it comes to television. I bet you know a lot of people with a DVR, in fact, you yourself may have one. Well, how many people do you know that slapped a 2 terabyte hard drive on to theirs to make sure that they would never miss a show because the box was full. I’m that guy.
To give you some kind of idea of what my viewing habits were like during the 2009 -2010 season:
Sunday: The Simpsons (which I had given up on a decade ago), Family Guy (which I almost gave up on last year), American Dad, Dexter, True Blood and The Pacific (still sitting on the DVR).
Monday: Heroes (which I finally gave up on mid-season), Chuck and 24
Tuesday: NCIS, Lost, Damages, V and Justified
Wednesday: Human Target, Modern Family, Mythbusters
Thursday: The Office, Community, Fringe and FlashForward
Friday: Warehouse 13, Stargate: Universe, and Caprica
(Check out the “What’s In Our DVR” Page For More!)
Now, you may notice that a lot of your favorite shows aren’t listed here and the reason for that is simple: I’m not flippin’ Matt Roush from TV Guide, here, I can’t watch every flippin’ show. Besides, after looking at my list of shows, do I seem like the kind of guy who would really have a whole lot of interest in Gray’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives or Gossip Girl? There are also a lot of shows that I just plain gave up on (see: the entire Law & Order and the aforementioned Heroes franchise) and there are also some shows that are very popular that I’ve just never had any interest in for a variety of reasons (see: the entire CSI franchise and Bones).
This being said, even though I won’t be writing about all of the current goings-ons of all shows, I will be doing reviews on as many new shows as humanly possible and I will provide television news that I would think would be an interest to our readers. For example: we have no interest in CSI but we, of course, recognize that a significant portion of our readers do so we’ll always report on breaking news regarding cast changes, etc. We used to have a ban on reality, but that ban has been lifted to the extent that contributors may contribute anything they want regarding reality provided that it’s well-written.
Now, that that’s all been said, please enjoy this picture of William Shatner sans toupée.
